Posey School’s curriculum is based on educationally sound concepts. We offer students an education in the performing arts of dance, music, theater and the visual arts. We explore basic concepts in the arts and relate these concepts to experiences in the other arts and in daily living. Students gain insight into the arts as a part of our national and world cultural heritage that is both historical and contemporary. The basic concepts in our curriculum may be viewed as a core of knowledge that is revisited at different age levels as the student’s knowledge increases, technical ability and skills improve, and a deeper understanding of the arts evolves. If you envision a spiral, truths of the core concept remain while the student explores new ways of thinking about them. We believe that everyone benefits from an education in the arts, regardless of whether they intend to become artists. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT OUR DANCE PROGRAM . . . Instead, we ask students to study dance as a discipline within arts education. Students develop technical skills, appreciate cultural differences, learn dance notation and become involved in the creative process of dance composition and choreography. They become involved in dance as a performing art when they are ready to perform and are offered opportunities to perform throughout the School year depending on their age, knowledge and experience. Technique is taught carefully, correctly and safely based on the age and progress of each individual student. Students are expected to continue their studies from September through June. During the summer Posey School offers students a choice of classes, camps and special programs. | |||||||||||
