EARLY CHILDHOOD DANCE PROGRAMS:

CREATIVE MOVES ......Toddlers 2 and older with adult
Fairy tales, folk songs and nursery rhymes introduce dance to boys and girls as they learn movement games and simple rhythmic games. This class prepares the children to work on their own in the next level so they are ready to learn.

INTRODUCTION TO DANCE .... Boys and girls, 3 and older
An exploration of movement and dance through a variety of activities which develop locomotor skills, flexibility, coordination and balance. Music and rhythm are emphasized as the children explore the relationship of sound to movement. Children’s literature (stories and poetry) are used as an inspiration to dance. Parents are invited to observe open classes.

CREATIVE DANCE.... Boys and Girls, 4 and older
Exploring elements of dance: space, shape, rhythm and the flow of energy. The children dance about stories and ideas that stretch the imagination, develop creative expression and self-confidence. Dance at this level includes simplified folk dance steps and introduces various forms of dance. This provides an excellent foundation for further dance studies. Parents and relatives are invited to observe open classes.

EXPLORING DANCE... Boys and Girls in Kindergarten, 5 and older
This class is especially designed for children who are in kindergarten and have had previous experience with dance. They are not merely learning “dances” taught by others, but capably demonstrating their knowledge of dance concepts to create their own dances. They explore ballet, contemporary and jazz music with appropriate styles of dance. This is a challenging class for children who are ready to learn a lot.

CHILDREN, PRE-TEEN, AND TEENS PROGRAMS:

ELEMENTS OF DANCE AND BALLET....Boys and Girls in First Grade, 6 and older
Basic modern dance skills and basic ballet vocabulary improves students coordination, strength and ability to move safely, easily and beautifully. Incorporating more structure and technique while continuing to develop creative skills through improvisation and compositional dance studies prepares students for technique classes. Children improve their dance language skills by notating their own dances and learning to read each other’s notation. At this age they may be ready to show their movement studies to parents, friends and relatives invited to their classes and participate in informal performances.

BALLET PROGRAM.... Boys and Girls, ages 7 and older
American Neoclassic Ballet technique taught in comprehensive and developmental style allowing each student to learn at their own pace. Studies in composition and choreography further improvisational exploration. Four levels of classes. Placement by audition.

BOYS CAN DANCE! .... Boys ages 7 to 10

Boys find a release for built up kinetic energy and enjoy the creative outlet dance provides—even thought they do not want to dance with their sisters or any girls!

CONTEMPORARY MODERN DANCE .... Boys and Girls, ages 8 and older
Modern Dance explores dance concepts, encourages correct body placement and ease of movement. Using a variety of contemporary modern dance techniques, that introduce floor work, traveling movements and dance sequences the class emphasis is on personal discovery and enjoyment of dance. Performance opportunities are offered as soon as students are ready to share their dances with others. There are three levels of classes. Placement is by audition.

JAZZ DANCE .... Boys and Girls ages 8 to 16
Classes are intended for students who have already achieved a fundamental understanding of dance technique, either ballet or modern dance, not for beginners. Jazz class consists of warm up, specialized jazz movement studies and composition. Jazz dance in Musical Theatre is a defined dance technique, it is not ‘street dance or hip hop’ although some movements have ‘crossed over’ into the theater from the vernacular.
